Sports

Sports are activities that involve physical exertion and skill. They are often governed by a set of rules or customs and are undertaken competitively.

They are a way to maintain and enhance mental health by helping youth learn teamwork, independence, self-esteem, and socialization skills. They also give children the chance to express their emotions through play and competition.

The term “sport” is derived from the Latin word for “compare”, which in turn derives from the Greek verb (stylo), meaning to compare or assess. Throughout history, many cultures have used sports to create and develop a sense of national identity, often using these games as a means of defending or challenging hegemonic social relations.

This connection of sport and national identity has been a source of controversy. Some argue that it can promote hegemonic social relations, while others believe that it can undermine them.

In any case, the term “sport” is a complex one, whose definition must include all the elements of activity that can be identified within this field. However, this is not an easy task, and it can be a lengthy and time-consuming process.

As a result, the concept of “sport” has been interpreted and expanded to include a broad spectrum of activities that meet no physical criteria. Examples of these activities are E-Sports, equestrian and motorsport.
